The end of the socialist era promised new hope to finally keep old promises: wealth, consumption and support, entertainment or the purpose of life. Only the people of Eastern Europe are still waiting.
Nonetheless, yearning, hope, and happiness seem to outlast all changes. I search for traces of these feelings of a "untimeliness", of a not-more and still-not-time, and find pictures for the unfulfilled promises.
There are images full of tension between desire and reality, because tristesse always refers to the magic of these promises. The hopelessness of the images still bears the traces of half-forgotten dreams and longings, revealing them on the streets, in the staff room of the abandoned village school or in the ruins of once promising construction projects.
In calmly distanced snapshots, a melancholy journey through a realm of abandoned hopes emerges.
